3 Caves, M. N. Milodon Cave + Hike to Laguna Sofia
- Cerro Benitez
- 13 Kilometers
- 6 a 7 Hours
- Level: Low to Medium
Overview
We proceed to the Cueva del Milodón Natural Monument sector to explore three primary caves that encapsulate the history of the region’s megafauna. Each cave offers an opportunity to delve into the past and experience life in the southern regions of Patagonia. After visiting the main cave, La Cueva del Milodón, we will embark on the second part of our excursion to the Laguna Sofía sector. Along a less-traveled trail, we will have the chance to engage with nature, admire the landscapes, and view ancient cave paintings. We conclude this journey at the stunning Laguna Sofía viewpoint, where our vehicle will be waiting on the shores of the lagoon to commence our return to Puerto Natales. Join us in discovering these three caves on a low-intensity excursion amidst the scenic landscapes of the Magellanic pampas and the pre-Andean scrubland. By traveling back to the Pleistocene, we will reconnect with history and explore these ancient refuges that once sheltered giant sloths, panthers, and the Tehuelches.
